25th Anniversary: National Air Force Museum of Canada In the late 1960s efforts began to create a museum to preserve Canada's proud Air Force heritage and to commemorate the airmen and airwomen who had proudly served in peace and war. On the sixtieth anniversary of the RCAF, 1 April 1984, the dream finally became reality when the doors of the RCAF Memorial Museum first opened to the public. From these humble beginnings in a small "leanto" beside the CFB Trenton Gym, today's National Air Force Museum of Canada now welcomes 44,000 visitors annually to the City of Quinte West, making it the region's largest tourist attraction.
To showcase the Anniversary Celebration of powered flight in Canada, the newest exhibit titled "From the Burgess-Dunne to the Globemaster III" will be opened to the public at a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 1st, 2009 at 11 am. This exhibit will celebrate the story of flight over the last 100 years highlighting the amazing advances in aviation technology as it relates to the renowned history and heritage of Canada's Air Force.
